The current problem revolves around the lack of supplies and materials in Haiti. Specifically, the outlying, heavily devastated areas such as Leogane, Grand Goave, Petite Goave, Miragoane and Jacmel where the continuing aftershocks reach magnitudes of 6.0 or more. Other undamaged areas of the Southwestern Provinces that are now cut off from food, and are being overwhelmed with refugees need assistance as well.

From Channel 4 News, London, England

Our primary goal is to utilize existing equipment and developed relationships to assist the area’s working non-profit organizations. From real-time reports, the transportation avenue has proven problematic or non-existent throughout the region. Countless small organizations lack the materials required to accomplish their work: Haiti is experiencing a bottleneck of goods and the people are suffering.

In response to this need, we have established a method to transport supplies throughout the southern provinces of Haiti. We are bypassing the clogged arteries of Port Au Prince. And we are seeking support in the form of 1) monies to fund shipment, 2) materials for various organizations and 3) relationships with a variety of aid and non-profit entities needing support to continue work in the Haitian communities.

Please view the story of Fernand Sajous as introduced by Tom Hanks at the recent telethon for Haitian relief. Sajous is a member of the Haiti Life group onsite in Haiti.

The Project

The Overview

  1. We are a US 501c3 non-profit seeking donations to support the transport of aid to the southern provinces of Haiti.

  2. Additionally, we are looking to develop immediate relationships with existing aid organizations researching efficient methods to transport goods/etc to this region. Please send your organization information or suggestions to info@haiti-life.org

  3. Members of our group are located throughout the US and in Haiti. The Haiti Life plan grew as a grassroots effort after experiencing and observing the lack of aid reaching the focus area. Shipments of aid are already underway. See map below for recent quake activities.

Current Needs

As of March 2010 the 1500 ton capacity ship has been successfully unloaded in Haiti.  The contents of the ship have been distributed to various areas including, Port-au-Prince, Les Cayes, Ile a Vache, Petit Goave and other locations.  People who needed crutches received them, orphanages received building supplies, people desperately in need of shelter received tents.  This was all done within less than 2 weeks of unloading the ship!  The weary volunteers have now taken a well deserved break and are thrilled that they could have taken part in such an amazing effort.  A new you tube video will be up soon.

The effort has now reverted back to the pre-earthquake focus.  We are putting our efforts back into supporting the school founded in 2006 on the island of Ile a Vache by the choose Life Children’s Organization of Haiti.  To see how you can help in this effort please view www.ileavachefoundation.com.  Thank you to all those who made his miraculous work possible!
